Hi there, i am working on a transmission mode in metasurface. How do i set the equation for the incident field to have circular polarization? Also how do i plot the electric field for the transmitted circular polarization? I am using COMSOL in my simulations.

Hello Edgar, you have to simply set the second component of your field with a phase shift of 90 degrees by multiplying it by j or exp(j*pi/2). For example, if you have put inside the x-component of the incident field the value E0*exp(j*k0*z), you have to set the y-component at j*E0*exp(j*k0*z)
Hello Tianjing, circular polarization is pretty straight forward, just as explained by Michelle: it consists of two linear plane waves, the x and y. usually the y-polarized wave can be set to lead or lag by 90deg i.e you could try this:set Ex_ field = 1, and E_y field = j or -j (Jones Vectors).
As for the boundary conditions, i would prefer periodic boundary conditions, i haven't tried with PEC or PMC.

That seems to be a different problem unrelated to the CP incident light. It may not be easy to know the cause of the 'rough ' transmission coefficient curve with the information you have given. Maybe you can give more information about your structure, materials etc...
