We are proteomics group that would like to buy a new mass spectrometer that would be used for simpler samples. For example, to detect 10-20 peptides.
We currently have QE with nanoLC that gives thousands of peptides (cell proteomics) but takes hours to run. However, for other purposes, we also need fast method, such as 10 min or so, for detection of about 20 peptides per sample. For example, for peptide serum stability, where we would look for a peptide and it's metabolites. Therefore, we still need DDA MSMS and at least Top10.
Another QE would be great, but it is too expensive. Also, Focus has only Top2.
Do you have any other suggestions? It doesn't have to be orbitrap technology.

If you know which ~20 peptides (and metabolites) you're interested in specifically, I guess a triplequad could be something to consider: not so expensive and quite robust.
Otherwise, Q-ToFs -even older ones- could also do the job, as could an ion trap (linear/3D).

first let me do a small correction. The QE Focus is doing Top3 with maximal 3000 m/z and a resolution of only 70.000 (instead of 140.000 or higher like with the other QE systems). However, it seems that you will better go for a multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) for which you would need a triplequad system (as Eef mentioned before).
With a welltuned method you will then be able to perform your analysis in the abovementioned time.

We don't know specific peptides/metabolites, so Q-TOFs and ion traps sound like a good choice.

For simple peptide mixes, I strongly recommend a MALDI-TOF MS system. The results are very easy to interpret (m/z: MH+) and it is a very fast technology. No LC so you will need to purify the peptides before mixing with the matrix.
