Latent Markov Model with unequal number of observations

I am working on a dataset where individuals are observed over variable periods of time. This results in observations per subject going from two to about 12, depending on the period of time during which they were observed. Is it possible to run a latent markov model or latent transition analysis using R packages (depmixS4 or LMest?) with such unequal observations?

Any software should have a facility to handle cases of unequal samples which may be said to be unbalanced. A balanced model is usually a special case of an unbalanced model. If R can handle the balanced (i.e. equal-sample) case, it can also handle the unequal-sample case. It is a matter of programming.
