I am doing a research to compare the effect of 3 land uses ( forest, irrigated crops and rainfed cereal crops) on available phosphorus (AP) and N_NO3 of alfisols and mollisols. for AV i found that the highest value was under irrigated crops and the lowest was under rainfed land use . it can attributed to fertilizers application in irrigated crops while no add fertilizers in other land uses . i asking what the reason for decreasing AP in rainfed land use comparing to forest land since both no fertilizers ere add. can we attribute that to difference in SOM which was higher in forest land .
2- is it logical that there no difference between rainfed and forest land in their content of N-NO3 .

Did you check the initial soil available nutrient status for all the three land use systems and the results what you are reporting is based on the change from initial value? It is well-known that if you cultivate crops without the addition of phosphatic fertilizer, it's value will come down. But under forest ecosystem it is a natural balance due to continuous enrichment of the soil with forest litter and solubilization of fixed phosphorus to available form through organic matter decomposition. Self replenishment of nutrients in inherent in forest eco-sytem but not under cultivated system unless you supply from external sources.

Your concerns are pertinent. I will be in line with the idea of K. Ramesh. However, it is important to know what type of data you are using to do the comparisons. Do you have type I data or type II data? Do you have a knowledge of management history in the various land use types? As concerns the results you have, it is important to know that soil phosphorus dynamics depends on the system considered (natural and artificial systems), for example it reduces more under unfertilized cropping systems compared to natural forests where the dynamics approaches a steady state due to the continuous cycling of organic matter.
