My dissertation project seeks to understand how and which women’s inclusion models have been applied to support gender equality and the meaningful participation of women during the three previous rounds of peace negotiations in Yemen. The project’s framework is drawn from Paffenholz (2014) and Reilly. et.al (2015) toward an inclusive peace process and the project’s framework outlines five models of inclusion (1) direct participation at the negotiation table, (2) observation, (3) official and unofficial consultation, (4) negotiation commissions, (5) problem-solving workshops. The purpose of using this framework is to define the meaningful participation of women in the UN-led peace process in Yemen. My research hypothesis is: The concept of meaningful participation and its practical application is still not clear in attempts to involve women in peace processes. And main research questionis: What has enabled and obstructed women’s meaningful participation in the Yemeni peace process?
