Kernel Density Estimation By Hand?

Can anyone provide a tutorial or demo where Kernel Density Estimation is done by hand. I have watched a lot of tutorials on KDE but I am unable to get the following:

1. After applying kernel function on each data point how to SUM the kernels (is it a simple summation?). and eventually how to draw a resulting estimate curve?
