Can someone advise whether the impact factor and impact factor assessing body matters, especially in considering ones research output towards a grant award. More than a couple of journal impact factor organizations exist, which of them are valid?
You can find the 'right' (JCR) impact factor from a database Thomson Reuters Web of Science. Some 'predatory journals' (those are mostly interested in authors' fees, not in quality of their papers) have invented their own 'impact factors' but those don't count if you apply for funding or for a job in a good university. So, check the Beall's list of predatory publishers and avoid such journals.
I had never heard of Global impact factor, so I had a look. The evaluation method is not exactly clear and there are plenty of journals missing that I'd expect to see in any impact factor list (at least as markers to compare against). I would stick with JCR impact factor unless asked otherwise. Or actual citation counts.
