I'm planning a glucose uptake assay with adult mesenchymal stem cells and possibly rat neural stem cells for my undergraduate thesis. i'd appreciate some recommendations for uptake kits and information on inhibitors for my controls.
I'm after a very general uptake from the cells (I know it's vague, I apologize. This is my first solo year-long experiment). Someone suggested apigenin for GLUT1 and also cytochalasin B (but I've read that this is very toxic).

my PhD Thesis topic was insulin resistance and glucose transport. I performed at the time cells uptake using radiolabeled 2-DG (14C) and was using CytoB as GLUT inhibitor. You might find fluorescent alternative to radioactivity, such as fluorescent kit using also 2-DG (abcam and others...) or direct 2-DG fluorescent probe (near infrared fluorescent probes - Perkin Elmer, LiCore, etc...), although I do not know whether these work well in vitro...
