I(V) is extracted from the measured I-V curve?

actually, I found this line while searching for the Nord Plot for Schotty diodes. Can anyone help me with I Extracted I (V)?

To me, it means one of two things:

1. The value of I at a given V is simply read from the graph

2. The data are fitted to an appropriate mathematical model to come up with an expression of I(V) (i.e., I as a function of V).
