If a document is given and authorized to be used in a research, what authors can I cite to support the idea that the people involved in that document do not need to give their informed consent to use the document as part of a study?
Redacted documents (applying the safe harbor method) do not need individual informed consent. But as a general rule a gatekeeper's permission does not dispense with the informed consent of an individual. You can work with the gatekeeper or IRB on this matter.
Thank you very much Arthur So , Yolanda M. Guerra Post Ph.D. , Rodel Capule , and Dennis Mazur .
The document is the group chat content of one WhatsApp group that they used as informal channel of communication. That is why I am trying to find any reference to support my procedure of requiring only the authorization of the CEO and the administrators of the WhatsApp group.
How can I state that this file (whatsapp group chat content) is an institutional document?
I would think that the key word here is informal, and that the institution can have no authority over the contents, even if they were about the work at the institution. There is Id assume an expectation of privacy on the part of the contributors. .
Thanks to everyone. I have found two authors supporting the idea that I can ask the informed consent of the leaders of the community to do research in online communities. In this case, WhatsApp will be considered a community (coz there are a group) and online (coz they need interent to log in, and because how the content is showed).
Thank you to all of you for your insights, they were very insightful in the process....
