I want to synthesis the Ce-Cu-O solid solution in which the Cu concentration is higher than 30%. Theoretically, this is possible or not? I know that for the solid solution, two metal atomic radius should be similar, like Ce-Zr-O solid solution. But the Cu atomic radius (128 pm) is too smaller that Ce atomic radius (182 pm).
I suggest that you try a sol-gel technique to form the corresponding Ce-Cu oxide mixture (starting from the corresponding alkoxides). Once the oxide mixture is formed, you can treat the powder in hydrogen atmosphere at a temperature between 200 and 500C.
Time, temperature and exposure time will determine to what degree you achieve the needed reduction (assuming your final product is supposed to be partially reduced).

Yes. It is possible design a solid solution type Copper doped Cerium oxide, at proportion higher than 30 mol % or 30 atom %, as an example 40 atom %, taking in account a calcination of precursor at reductor atmosphere, based on the H2.
However, seems that stoichiometric features of the Ceria CeO2 is really lost. There is oxygen release to the atmosphere, giving CeO2-delta. It is not clear if Ce2O3 can easily exhibit some kind of nonstoichiometric character with would be used in a favorable way.
