Actually i tried to get fatty acid profile of maize leaf tissues using GC-MS analysis, but i am unable to get results.

I have incorporated 'heptadecanoic acid' as an internal standard in the extract during preperation, but thats also not visible in the GC-MS chromatogram, only noise appears.

There is indeed nothing to see...

1. Question: is your system working properly? Do other methods work, a quality Control Sample e.g alkane? Watch the Injection.

If everything is fine --> start esterification with your C17:0 alone. Signal? Then add the C17:0 always One step earlier in the protocol and tell us where you lose It.

Be sure you use the FAME method of the AOCS (Association of the Oil Chemists Society). That is the same column, gases...

Otherwise you will have to accurately dry and grind a portion. Perform a Soxhlet extraction of the oil and proceed from there.
