thank you for your reply. However I am not able to see the individual company names (constituent list of the index) in the link you have provided.

Maybe I did not express myself sufficient enough. What I am looking for is, the list of all company names which got listed in the respective DJIM index; per year, starting from 1996-2014.

The DJ Index has over 2000 components.  The KLCI index and other Malaysian indexes have 30/100 stocks.  However, I cannot find a list but there ought to be one.  Contact the Bursa Malaysia and ask for a list.  Below is a detailed description of the Bursa indexes.  I will contact my Malaysian co-authors to see if they can provide a list.

In my humble opinion once you can get the DJIM's data from 1996-2014 then it makes it easier for you to come up with the list you are searching for. This is because the data's trends would provide the newly and older companies in DJIM.

It would only require your additional focus and time. Islamic finance industry is yet under construction. Thus, your list would be an excellent output and be recognized by subsequent researchers.

Based on an email conversation with S&P directly, they do provide such information, however subscription is required. However, I can start from now on (on quarterly basis or even monthly) to download DJIM and its constituent (current list of company names), so in the future we can have such information done by our self. But exactly that is what I am hoping that maybe somebody else has done it before and could share.

Wishing you good luck in your research. However, I advise you to use quarterly due to the volume of data involved, unless if you have statistical program that would be able to handle substantial data of such. This makes your research interesting.

You can download the constituent list of DJIM series from Datastream. Just add the MMYY at the end of the index you are searcing for. For example,

I think there is a misunderstanding in what I meant by constituent list.

Let me give you a brief task within Datastream, please take your 2 minutes and try the following:

1) search for "Dow Jones Islamic" --> a number of indices will appear

2) find and click on DJ Islamic (symbol: DJIMKT$) --> once you click on that line, a small window with information about this index will appear

3) as for now, you can see that under "contains" 2589 Constituents (or companies) exist

4) click on "2589 Constituents" (its a link) --> you will be able to see the names of all 2589 companies

==> you can see, that this naming list is ONLY the as-is constituents of this index

Now: HOW, can I get the naming list of the past? Let's say 12.2014/13/12/11/10...all the way back to the starting year 1996?

I hope I could express my request that I had couple month ago.

By the way: even S&P confirmed that such information (i.e. historical data of the Islamic Indices) are available but it requires additional subscription. Attached is the S&P offered solution for such request I had.

INCEIF has not subscribed to S&P UFF as for now, maybe later.

please find attached the latest version that I have downloaded in regards to the Dow Jones Islamic Index constituents. Data is from March 2015 (as is) with NO history. Basically there is NO way for me (at least) to get the official constituent list of any Dow Jones Islamic Index annually (to see the development). If you ever come across, please share with all of us.

Unfortunately, the provision of the constituents in any DJ index has stopped since several month. That means, even now, I cannot get the as-is constituent (list of the individual firm names) from Datastream. Maybe it is a licensing (subscription) issue; but who knows. I can also confirm that students from other universities cannot retrieve the constituent list since several month ago.
