In the United States, two least stressful jobs (among the top 5 least stressfu) are Professor and Research Analyst. Do you think your job is least stressful? How?
Professor as a position is also going to experience the second highest growth by 2020.
I think, because "professor" is the last academic title, so from this perspective they could be relax. However, there are some new factors such as citation and h-index that return back the sense of competition.
Nadeem Ahmad Khan , one reason a professor‘s job is considered least stressful is due to the fact that professors are not required to be micro managed like other lobs. They also do not have to be in their offices like other 9:00 to 5:00 jobs.
Actual timing are in between 900 AM to 5PM but some of the teaching faculty doing their research work upto 8/9PM and spending in the labs during holidays also. For presenting a lecture, Teacher has to involve in the home work for 3 to 4 hours.Teaching is a tough job which teacher regularly update his/her knowledge otherwise they can not deliver the lecture in a systematic manner. It is not mechanical job like some professions, teachers/ researchers have to think with brain to draw the conclusions.
In the United States, (exceptions aside) the tenured professors enjoy low stress job due to a large number of factors, including good reputation as a researcher and network of colleagues, very flexible hours. But for early career academics, there are pressures of teaching and developing new courses and learning on the job about how to deal with student issues. So I agree with you Dr. Nadeem Ahmad Khan
May or may not be. It depends on your style of working. Attitude of your boss and colleagues. Availability of resources, facilitation and motivation. I think it varies from person to person as well.
Every profession has its share of stress. There is no such job on the earth which has 0% stress (or 100% comfortable). If you love your field of work and enjoy working, stress factor will be minimum. If you are in some field out of sheer luck or only with the objective of making money, stress is bound to trouble more often.
I am in the field of scientific research that demands lot of thinking and analysis. Stress is obviously there at times but I am happy with my profession so the pleasure quotient is much higher then stress.

Being a professor may come with a lot of freedom, as well as with many obligations and responsibilities. Undoubtedly this will differ between cultures, nations, institutions and even within universities. I assume that those with more freedom to plan and carry out their activities are among the happiest and may perceive their job less stressful.
That said, what is actually the source of the claim? Is it based on properly executed and published research? If so, where was it published?
you guys must be lucky.. together with excessive teaching and research, I got a pile of minor tasks which never seems to reduce in size. The whole thing stresses me considerably.
If one is sincere, dedicated and wants to deliver the best then it's but natural that there's stress. Truly speaking if you want to contribute something in lieu of salary get then have to bear the stress . If you have competitive stress ie eustress then you can do the best . Life without eustress is like nothing competitive.
Live in the present moment, not the future. Anxiety about the future is one of the chief causes of stress. We can all spend hours worrying about what ifs; better to focus on the things you know are real and true not ones you can not determine or influence.
How could I know the answer to that? I have delivered newspapers by bike one Summer - no stress there. :-) But otherwise I have been a scholar for a rather long time, and it's impossible to compare. Yes, doing research only was much less stressful than to also teach, for example, but since having a family it is also a scheduling to make sure works. I second the opinion of Djaafar Zemali, but it's not always that easy.
Being an HOD of the English Department is really stressful. One tries to meet the needs of students, colleagues and the college Deanery. Teaching is less stressful and more interesting than administrative work.
