In most cases, the proper analytical technique to use for "antibiotic residues from wasterwater" requires that the technique(s) be able to isolate and measure the individual antibiotics accurately. Techniques such as HPLC (e.g. LC-DAD or LC-MS) used with methods that follow good chromatography fundamentals are well suited to the task. UV or NIR are not selective enough and also not able to isolate the many possible antibiotics for analysis. Many errors would result from using such techniques. Selecting inappropriate techniques (simply because they are "available" to you) that do not have the required scientific selectivity and/or specificity for the task will only lead to the collection and reporting of invalid data and methods. *The correct technique(s) must be always be selected.
