I encounter difficulty in getting the sense of transgender. If it is feeling how does it develop? If it is desire what motivates it? It is important that I should have knowledge on this phenomena to work with my brothers and sisters who are in this category. Furthermore I want to understand why this group seems to be unpopular.

Anecdotal: A close friend of my daughter's is transgender and from what I know of him, directly and through my daughter, I agree with Szymon Niemiec
As a trans person myself who has conducted research with trans youth, I can add that some individuals do not realize from early childhood, but instead have a sense that something is simply 'wrong'. A lot of older trans people have previously had no vocabulary to voice our experiences, and so it can be that one does not realize one is transgender until they are later exposed to the concepts. With a lot more exposure to trans lives through media representation, it could also be that a lot of young people are expressing their identities earlier than they might have in the past.
