Frequently, when TiO2 (anatase or rutile) is used as filler for papermaking, particle size ranges from 0.2 to 0.5 microns. Our regular suppliers, however, sell TiO2 nanopowder, whose particle size is smaller. I wonder if such small particles could be used to increase opacity. If that is not the case, do you know any supplier selling 0.2-0.5 um TiO2 in small quantities -i.e., for research purposes?
I think, the 10 to 100 nm fraction of TiO2 represents too small particles to be used for papermaking.
You might find a convenient preparation of TIO2 /with regard to particle size/ in catalogies dealing in fine chemicals , e.g. in Sigma, Merck, Supelco, or Aldridge.
Another way how to obtain smaller amounts of TiO2 with 0.2 - 0.5 microns particlesize is to wisit a papermaking plant and ask for it. Offcours, you have to do it in an official way.
