No. It may be possible to port TWINSPAN to vegan, but it is not among the vegan top priorities. If anybody wants to try porting, I will be happy to help. TWINSPAN has a very permissive license, and it would be completely legal to port the function into R. "
AFAIK cluster::diana isn't the same as TWINSPAN; but both are a divisive hierarchical clustering method.
no, TWINSPAN is still not in R. Sounds like (according to Jari Oksanen) the import of the original Fortran library is not that easy as in case of Decorana (DCA). Some time ago Dave Roberts tried to recode the whole algorithm into R, but the performance somewhat differ from the original program, and I haven't seen it anywhere since.
Perhaps the simplest way to do Twinspan is to use freeware program from here: http://www.canodraw.com/wintwins.htm
and import data back to R.
I personally hope once there will be Twinspan in R, since it's still rather popular among vegetation ecologists...
I already use the free Twinspan from http://www.canodraw.com/wintwins.htm , I was just wondering about R.
Hi, but as I understand, CAP (Community Analysis Package version 5.0, http://www.pisces-conservation.com/index.html?softcap.html$softwaremenu.html) is software package, not R library. Or is this CAP available also as an R packages?
There are several standalone software programs running Twinspan - e.g. WinTWINS, JUICE, CAP, PC-ORD, but as I know, it's not available in R. I tried to port it into R (see package twinspanR, https://davidzeleny.wordpress.com/2015/05/10/twinspan-in-r/), but it's just beta version of R package, and works only under Windows. As far as I know, there is no other implementation of TWINSPAN in R so far - but I will be happy to know if I am wrong...
Also you can try other version of clustering methods in community ecology inside R such as the library FLEXCLUST or the Indicator Analysis (indval) of the library LABDSV.
