I find it quite troublesome when people upload something queer or peculiar in place of their own photograph on their profile page. Had it been a hard copy submission they could not have done it. "Face is the Index of the Mind" -- they say. No face or something other than the face in place of the face may be due to various reasons e.g. unavailability of soft-copy of photograph, lack of expertise in uploading etc. It may even be just for the fun of it that some one uploads something strange. The trouble with grammar deepens when you don't know whether you are talking to a male or a female.
Are there any studies in this regard on RG or elsewhere by cyber-psychology experts or behavioral psychologists.
Equally, a face may not have all the charm and chrisma to be displayed via the medium of photography.

The question is whether there a deeper psychological reason to first of all have the thought not to upload the face?
Some people upload an animal face or a pillar or something more stranger. What is the reason?
The phenomenon is not unique to RG only. It represents a kind of psychological attitude, I suppose.

of course fixation at primitive behaviour level like anal fixation is not out of bounds of reality to influence people at waking levels. One can express repressed hatred for oneself by these activities.

In some cases it may be the thing or the object that the person identifies himself/herself with e.g. a pet that he/she loves the most. He/she may then be having the desire to let the loved pet represent him/her.
