Economists say: ''there is no free lunch''. Other words they claim that anything in this world we can't get free. Whether is precisely so? Is there free lunch?
Grad students who attend conferences without paying registration fees can appreciate this, since coffee and snacks are often there for the taking. Maybe the question should be refined to acknowledge the possibility of "free riders".
There is no free lunch in any economy/country. Even if you want any natural resources like sand, water etc we have to pay for it. If anything is offered as free, then there must be some catch disguised. We have to be very careful.

There ain't no such thing as a free lunch" (alternatively, "There is no such thing as a free lunch" or other variants) is a popular adage communicating the idea that it is impossible to get something for nothing. The acronyms TANSTAAFL, TINSTAAFL, and TNSTAAFL are also used
There used to be a seedy bar in a dingy hotel in a downmarket part of Vancouver that was run by a couple of early-middle-aged ladies. They would put out day-or-two-old bakery items and other leftovers from the hotel to which anyone could help themselves. Cynics would probably have claimed that it was just a way to lure customers into the bar. But actually they had a soft spot for the old alcoholics, rounders, and low-income seniors who would otherwise have forgone a meal for the sake of a few drinks in the company of their peers, and didn't require anyone to actually be a paying customer. For some of the old men, this Free Lunch was probably their only meal of the day.
