Hi all. I am wondering if any way that positive selection of streptomycin or chloramphenicol sensitive cells against their resistant cells in a growth medium? For example, adding fusaric acid or nickel chloride is a method of direct and positive selection of loss of tetracycline resistant cells while sensitive cells do not affect by it. If anyone knows a method or trick, please let me know. Thanks

If you expect a very low ratio of susceptible vs resistant bugs, you can also think of the method described here (PMID 1103728). It's the same principle as used by Lederberg but you can screen much more colonies.

Thank you for your responses. Basically, I have been doing plasmid transfer experiment and trying to isolate recipient cells against transconjugant cells. They are both recipient cells and I should get rid of all transconjugant cells from my recipient selective media to count only recipients. Any way to do this? I have found a paper saying bacteriophage lambda preferentially kills resistant ones. But it seems to me not very effective.
