Hyperemesis has large psychological component- and people treating it would need to explore the sick womans relationship with her mother and father and her feelings about the pregnancy, if they wanted the woman to improve.
I do not know of training programs here in the U.S. I do know that both Vitamin B6 and Ginger are good at reducing morning sickness and even more extreme hyperemesis. I do not find that there is a psychological component to Hyperemesis gravidarum, but it is apparently due to the hormonal changes occurring, especially HCG.
Psych component: Really serious psych issues with mothers and sexual or physical abuse issues are usually very private. As a homebirth midwife for over 30 years, women open up to me because I visit them in their homes and because I offer unlimited length of visits. Perhaps this is how I have uncovered that hyperemesis is associated with a difficulty in becoming a mother because the woman's own mother was either absent completely or abnormally problematic. I have not found B6 to reduce morning sickness reliably unless it is taken for 3-6 months daily BEFORE conception. Then it works every time. So nausea appears to be a lack of B6. and Hyperemesis is often nausea plus a psych component. Dose necessary is only 10 mg, which is unavailable on the market. Smallest dose I have round sold is 50 mg at puritan.com/ None of my hyperemesis cases found ginger helpful. Cochrane review says "The use of ginger products may be helpful to women, but the evidence of effectiveness was limited and not consistent, though three recent studies support ginger over placebo." Ginger is sold with a lot of sugar these days which is not needed. Nice discussion!
The information on Vitamin B6 is interesting, and I do believe that most people are deficient in a number vitamins and minerals, and omega-3's. Ginger is available in very many forms, not just the candied variety. You may buy the spice, get pickled ginger (sushi dept.), buy capsules of ginger, ginger beer (non-alcoholic)....... On you psychological cause, are there any papers that provide data on this?
