Yes, there certainly is. Your best bet for general investigations is the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Association (http://www.gbrmpa.gov.au/), which is the governmental organization that is entrusted with the task of managing and protecting the GBR. Be aware though that there are (and unfortunately always will be) conflicts between environmental managing and industrial development and although Australia appears to take reasonably good care of the GBR, the industrial sector has a great influence on decision-making in Australia. As a consequence, strategic planning to protect the GBR is by far not as strong and rigorous as it should be.

We are also working on a systematic conservation planning project specifically for the GBR coast (where development threats are numerous) as well. This is looking at cumulative impacts of all development types on values of the GBR that include corals. Check out the documents at for more info
