When we use picasa we can notice a spectrum of the image that is displayed in the window and it shows various details about the image.. Also if the image is a single color image it can be converted to L,a,b values or X,Y,Z values. Does anyone know of a software that gives either the spectrum or the L,a,b / X,Y,Z values of the image?
One great tool would be the "Color Inspector 3D" plugin in ImageJ/Fiji - besides the standard RGB Histogram (I assume that's what you indacte with "spectrum"), you can also visualise the colours in different colour spaces (see screenshot) and extract all colour information.
Moreover, you can use the Wu-Chant Algorithm and get a "reduced" image with up to 256 colours in most of the colour spaces (incl. their frequency).
I don't know if there's a plugin or Matlab code that would actually give you all the individual RGB values - that you then can calculate the L*a*b* values from.

That was very helpful.. I also want one more info... Is it possible to plot R, G, B spectrums of an image in 2d with Intensity Vs Wavelength?(see image) and also Is it possible to get XYZ/ Lab values..??
Using HFCR software, you can either enter in the original value and it will show you the converted value, or you can use a colorimeter with it. It is free, but I have not tested the accuracy in converting the numbers. Try it to see if it can be of any help. My students use it as a quick reference to understand the Lab and XYZ values. I would like to suggest you to work with colorimetry, you can transform rgb to xyz coordinates in this and very simple mathematical conversions are there for this in CIELAB.

Hello, I'm trying to work with HCFR but I'm having trouble with the data input. I have wavelength (nm versus absorbance values), set on a .csv table but the import of file is failing. I won't work with a colorimeter in order to input this data. Thanks!
