As you know typhoid fever is an endemic disease, the blood culture is the best test for diagnosis, but the the simple easy measurement of IgM and IgG antibodies can be done. Can you tell me any experience about this subject. Thanks
Serologic tests are known to be of limited significance in endemic areas because positive results may represent previous infection.
The Widal test detects anti-S. Typhi antibodies, and the minimal titers defined as positive for the O (surface polysaccharide) antigens and H (flagellar) antigens must be determined for individual geographic areas; they are higher in developing regions than developed ones. They only considered to be significant when paired acute and convalescent samples are studied, a fourfold or greater increase is considered positive.
