Being a researcher in the field of swarm intelligence for more than seven years, I still haven't found any research group/ institution or research lab dedicated to swarm intelligence research. Mostly independent researchers who work and publish their findings in various journals. Is there any such research group or lab that works on various SI methods and related applications?
I am working with Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) for about a decade now, and now I started mentoring few PhD students in that area so I am best informed about ACO. There is a research group by Marco Dorigo, Thomas Stützle, Mauro Birattari and other guys in Brussels, Belgium. I think that the laboratory is called IRIDIA, or something like that, and it is part of Universite libre de Bruxelles. There might be some other groups that are doing more broadly evolutionary algorithms and swarm intelligence.
Thank you Nikola Ivkovic for this information. Last year I met Prof. Milan Tuba at a conference and discussed PSO and its related applications. He is also concerned about a dedicated research lab on Swarm Intelligence. Still, the number of research labs is minimal in my opinion.
