Upon doping I have got crystallite size different form the mother one.Also there is a tensile as well as compressive strain for those doped samples. Please see the attachment.
Crystallite size have been calculated from Scherrer formula.
Is there any logic to describe the observed result??
This is ZnO hexagonal wurtzite structure doped with trivalent cation alongwith tetra-valent cation(X), trivalent cation only (Y) and trivalent cation along with mono-valent anion (Z).
It seems there is a confusion here between what we call the crystallite size and the lattice unit cell size. In physical metallurgy the crystallite implies crystalline substance having well define lattice structure, which may be in the form of single entity or as in the polycrystalline aggregate, where individual crystallite is called grain There should be direct connection between their size and the type and amount of doping elements introduced during solidification process if there would preferred segregation along the grain boundaries (GB) . Any doping which increases the GB specific Helmholtz free energy definitely enhances the grain refinements.
To have tensile as well as the compressive strains means that doping atoms are in type paraelastic octahedral interstitials, and their strain fields are represented by the elastic dipole tensor as advocated by Late Erhard Kröner. They should give Snoek peaks during the internal friction studies.
