Kindly to ask you, is there any relationship between antioxidant and antimicrobial activity? since I already extract active compound from dragon fruit peel using distilled water as a solvent into microwave assisted extraction (MAE), then total phenolic from solution extraction is give quite high for phenolic content but give negative result for antimicrobial activity. Please advise.
I think that this question should be a subject of research. However, many phenolic agents exhibit both antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. In theoretical science,antioxidant activity is all about the reduction or removal of free radicals and nascent oxygen from an environment. On the other other hand, many bacteria could also depend on these nascent oxygen for survival in any given environment. Thus by implication, reduction or removal of free radicals or oxidants could relate to antimicrobial activity. This could explain in parts why antioxidant properties could correlate positively with antimicrobial activity.
No there is no relation between antioxidant ant antimicrobial activity. Mechanisms are not related. And little relation between antimicrobial activities for varied microorganisms. One compounds may be poison fora bacteria and food for another.

Many Studies show that the all extracts of plants and their total phenolic contents were analyzed for their ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria (antibacterial activities) and also for their ability to scavenge radicals (antioxidant capacity.) These activities were correlated with their total phenolic levels so the extracts contents. For the most studies of extracts there was a strong linear relationship between total phenol contents and the measured activities. We can say in the most case that there is a the correlation to their antioxidant and antibacterial capacities

Every antioxidants are not antimicrobial but yes so many natural molecules are antioxidants and antimicrobials too.
Antimicrobial and antioxidant active ingredient are individual parameter. Till date there is no reported cases showing relationship between them. Phenolic compounds and terpenoids are 2 important phytochemicals present in many medicinal plants that impart antimicrobial activity, that are also antioxidant ! But it is not necessary to be universal rule. Some times it's depends on the processing of the plant materials ! Such that some phytochemicals when exposed to heat or sunlight for long then its antimicrobial potential reduces but antioxidant activity remain unchanged !!

Generally there is no relation between antioxident & antimicrobial activity. But i got an observation from my experiment that , which plant is rich in flavenoid content that show a good antimicrobial activity.
Plant extracts with high antioxidant activity may show a significant antibacterial activity. In this regard you can read the following manuscript.

In above context I observed that phenolic compound are extracted well in hydroalcoholic extract. HA extract gives good antimicrobial activity.
Augustine Anayochukwu Onyeaghala you are absolutely right. it is vast area of discussion. there are many examples in literature where anti oxidants have powerful antimicrobial activity bcoz of creating scavenging environment for the inhibition of bacteria
Many plant extracts reported to contain antioxidant constituents show appreciable antimicrobial activity so this is a research topic needs correlation with activity data
All extrsacts of plants and their total phenolic contents were investigated for antioxidant activities and antibacterial activities .these activities were corelated with their total phenolic content
