To me, the most interesting development is the critical assessment of multimodal and socio-semiotic resources in communication. that is, not only verbal language, but also non verbal, such as movement (i.e. kinesics), posture and social distance (i.e. proxemics, see Hall 1968), etc. etc.

I think those notions of ideology and dominance are of main interest. They can be pragmatically encoded critically.

The researcher per se can determine the pragmatic aspects of the data under investigation. There is no one-size-fits-all aspects. 

A good researcher can diagnose the practical aspects of data through statistical applications, but the problem is that some researchers are weak in statistical skills.
