The siliquae/ pod shattering may be obviously more, if magnitude of ripening is more uneven.So visualizing the form land, one can asses the shattering level in this crop.
Thanks Danial, i will validate this data, i have sown over 1000 accessions of brassica this season. can you suggest other important characters to note?
May be pod anatomy give you some clue, there are tissues which promote shattering..can be identified early by simple anatomical screening and followed later for degree of shattering..I am interested in this problem...
we have clearly observed that bold seeded genotypes of Indian mustard are invariably resistant to shattering whereas, small seeded are poor in non shattering habit. However, it does not hold true in B. napus and B. rapa. Welcome for any other question.
