I have wind energy density data and want to classify the data into 4 classes (very low, low, moderate and high). I know in ArcGIS, we can classified the data using the Reclassify tools. There are several classifiers which is equal interval, quantile and etc.
Accept for the methods above, may I know if there is any reliable methods or algorithm to classify the range value into desired classes ?
High, Low, Very low is a relative term on generating capacity. Same energy could be generated with high and low wind velocity as Momentum=(Mass)(Velocity), hence with low wind velocity, to generate same energy the needed Mass to handle turbine should be higher……
Other than considering just available methods in the software it is better to follow suitable methods that relate to your data. Hence you can use manual data classification by considering suitable classes. For the classification, it is better to contact experts in the relevant field and perform classification.

If there is an industry or domain standard defining the ranges according to some set of criteria, use that?
If you are making your own, I usually do a histogram to see where the data falls ( basically a manual Jenks ).
Or use Jenks, and then edit the resulting classification ranges to suit.
