In CST MW Studio, I am designing a 28 GHz antenna, and the patch is on the Rogers RT5880 substrate. I know there are commercially available sheets of substrate in various thicknesses—5 mil, 10 mil, 15 mil, and so on. I am intending to make it a MIMO. I am confused about the thickness of the substrate to use. Can anyone tell me if there is any allowed range?
Since SMA Connectors are presumably obtained as similar in size, what should I consider when I am designing the feed line? Is there any range of dimension I must consider regarding the feed width or length or anything?
For 28 GHz, a substrate thickness of 5–20 mil on Rogers RT5880 is generally suitable; 10 mil is a balanced choice for most MIMO designs. It is critical to follow the connector footprint and accurately set the 50 Ω feedline widths. At 28 GHz, it is preferable to use a 2.92 mm (K-type) end-launch connector instead of a standard SMA.

You first see which thickness is practical. from your connector point of view. Thin substrate should be prefer over thick substrate( assuming monopole antennas) you ca go through " Effect of substrate material on radiation characteristics of an UWB antenna". Hope it will be of help.
