I have done annealing of P20 steel at 1000 degree C. Again we follow cryo-treatment at different temperature. we found the result are: decrease in hardness and increase in impact resistant. What will be the fundamental reason associated with it for decrease in hardness. Your suggestion is highly appreciable. Thank You.

We annealed at 1000 degree C temperature with 3hr soaking time, then furnace cooling. After removal of oxide scale we have done cryo-treatment at --50 degree C for 2 hr. sample dimension is (3x1x1)mm.
Cryo-treatment for what? Generally for hardening cryo treatment is done (for hardness improvement). Means quenching from 1000 degree, then cryo treatment?
In this one logical conclusion is like below:
As received P20 may have normalized structure, by your annelaing treatment the carbides got dissolved and due to slow cooling at furnace coarse structure along with coarse carbides have been formed. resulting in lower hardness but better impact properties.
there may other possibilities too. This is my personal view.
