Basically, Light reflectance property of soil depends on the colour of soil and that decide the soil temperature, as temp. influencing drastically th activity of micro-organisam and altimatly the rate of decomposition. simmilarly, the rate of evaporation also affected due to soil temperature.
Soil colour is determined by the composition of the mother rock that decompose and climate condition the developmentof the soil profile. Soil colour is an indication of the cultivation posibility of a soil/ fileld.

Yes, parent material decide mostly colour, however, the oxidation, aeration and organic matter content decide the colour.which may indicate the dominance of particular element or substance in soil.
Soil color due to various constitute of soils like mineral matter types , organic matter content and drainage also affect onsoil color, so base on that there is no direct effect of soil color on crop growth
I think, color of the soil does not effect crop production directly but can do in indirect way....
Soil color is mainly the concern of the parent materials by which soil is being formed as well as rocks which after metamorphism develop into different colors...
Color of the soil is also developed by the minerals present and by the organic matter content. It is said that soil having oxidized form of iron that is ferric ions Fe++ will developed in to yellow or red color..
Dark brown or black color of the soil is produced by the minerals present and by the organic matter content.
Wet soil or water clogged soils will appear in darker color than dry soil.
Presence of the moisture of water also affects soil color as it influence redox potential that is oxidation and reduction of mineral compounds which results in color variations...
In well drained soil or aerobic ecosystem of soils due to presence of oxygen and better diffusion of it, red color develop due to the oxidation of irons while under water logging conditions or extremely wet soil (with low oxygen) there will be grey or green color by the presence of reduced (ferrous) iron oxide.
If the soil is white in color, it means there is remarkable amount of calcite especially in arid regions where more evaporation hence leaving the salts above the soil surface developing white in color...
Organic matter or humus make the soil color more darker especially black or brown... it is said that red color soils having good drainage as it is developed through oxidized iron compounds having aerobic ecosystem...
Dark color soils absorbs more solar radiation and warm quickly as compared to the lighter in color...
Actually soil color tells about its origin, constitution as well as nature of parent materials...it some how can affects crop production also.....
the color can be an indicator of soil quality, for example brown generally means the soil has good natural drainage. The black or dark gray color is usually the result of the accumulation of organic matter, we have worked with this topic:
