The solar battery is the integration of photoelectric converters (photocells) - semiconductor devices that directly convert solar energy into a constant electric current, in contrast to solar collectors that heat the heat transfer material.
Solar panels, though environmentally friendly, but at the same time - very expensive. Scientists have found them an alternative - polymer solar cells.
Alternative to silicon solar batteries can be polymer solar cells. This is a new technology, the development of which are working dozens of research institutes and firms around the world.
Plastic solar batteries are a new branch of the development of solar energy. According to the assumptions of scientists and developers, such photo batteries will soon become almost 5 times more efficient and productive than classical analogues.
In fact, a standard plastic photocell is a classic film structure, consisting of a working layer (actually a polymer), a flexible substrate on the basis of organic, aluminum electrodes and the outer layer. Individual polymeric cells can be joined to each other, creating a single roll structure.
Advantages of plastic solar batteries:
Flexibility of structure;
Compactness and strength;
Ease;
Use of advanced technologies.
In addition, the production of such photocells is quite cheap.
The only drawback is a small performance. However, the prospects for the development of this direction are very high, therefore the efficiency of polymer panels is constantly increasing.
