Dear Shivakiran,

There is a UV method available from Boehringer Mannheim. The chemistry of the detection is shown below.

In the presence of glutamate dehydrogenase (GIDH) and reduced nicotinamide-

adenine dinucleotide (NADH), ammonia reacts with 2-oxoglutarate

to L-glutamate, whereby NADH is oxidized.

The amount of NADH oxidized in the above reaction is stoichiometric to the

amount of ammonia. NADH is determined by means of its light absorbance

at 334, 340 or 365 nm.

I am looking for colorimetric method because I need to develop a method where the results can be read with naked eye.
