Cotton crop is getting affected by parawilt during rainy seasons in North western India. Bt cotton is primarily suffering from para wilt incidence which occurs mainly after heavy rainfall or irrigation.As a result the entire plant dies in a 5-10 days period facing a slow death case.So something is needed which can enhance or promote root growth primarily. Parawilt occurs due to lack of oxygen to roots under watered conditions.So possibility of any chemical seed treatment for better root development may be the option.
Phosphorus-based products are known by its effect to promote root developpement
Suppression of ethylene pathway and promotion of ABA pathway during water logged conditions might works. Using transgenic cotton is another option. You can treat the plant with Auxins and cytokines for increasing root growth and number.
DEAR FRIENDS, THIS ISSUE IS PARTICULARLY SEVERE IN TRANSGENIC COTTON ONLY.WE ARE HAVING MORE THAN 95% AREA UNDER BGII (BOLLGAURD TWO) CULTIVATION IN NORTH WESTERN INDIA.WE CAN ACHIEVE SOME SUCCESS BY TREATING PLANTS IN LAB ONLY BUT HOW TO GET RESULTS IN THE FIELD CONDITIONS IS THE REAL ISSUE. AUXINS AND CKs PROMOTE OVERALL GROWTH BUT THEIR SPECIFIC ACTION ON ROOT COMPONENT IS QUESTIONABLE?
Indole butyric acid and naphthylacetic acid, are considered to improve root growth. But a careful application is needed.
Well, Muhammad, the real issue is how to apply IBA and NA and at what stage.Do you think that application at the time of sowing i.e seed treatment of cotton seeds will give us desired results.Share if their is any literature in any of the field crops specifically mentioning about strengthening of root components.At least this can give us a direction to move and experiment in the field conditions.Thanks for your response.
