Well, the prime issue is to fill the gaps of cotton plants created due to burning of young seedlings during MAY-JUNE, where temp exceeds 47-48 degrees.The gaps created due to lesser plant population cause not only yield reduction but also weeds do grow there.So something to popularize cotton transplanting is of utmost importance.

At the time of normal sowing, in order to maintain the required plant population it is better to sow single seed in paper cup filled with soil and manure. After 25-30 days these cups along with the cotton seedling could be transferred in the field. In this way the normal plant population can be maintained easily with the same duration of plants.

Likewise this practice can be adopted for whole field in order to reduce the cost of cultivation in terms weeding,gap-fillings because 15-20000 can easily be grown just like pigeonpea in which transplanting in this manner is getting popularity and this technology is known as Beader Technology.

Well,Dr Rishi main issue is how to popularize the transplanting technology.

Requested to read these article, basically both cotton and pigeonpea are indeterminate,long duration crops with deep root systems with common problems.

This information is good.However my question is that despite available technologies for transplanting of cotton in North India, we are not able to get desired results.There is good research work done in cotton in China where cotton is being successfully grown in standing wheat by making long strips through transplanting.However I am not sure about level of adoption by farmers in China.Thanks Dr Rishipal for updates on relevent information.

Dear Dr Kulvir basically this technique does not involve transplanting as it require sowing, uprooting and then planting. Raisingcotton seedlings in paper bags(Coffee cup) of nearly 6 inch long filled it with soil mixed with manures and then sowing of single seed in a cup. After 30-35 days these seedlings along with cup are put in the soil as such. Because cotton by nature is slow growing plant initially and care of 20000 odd plants is rather easy as compared to field conditions in which ideal plant population can never be maintained. Moreover this technology is gaining popularity as it allows inter-cropping of another short duration oilseed/pulse crops in between which takes 70-75 days only.The net productivity is enhanced in addition to improve soil health. Please try this even i can speak to Dr karanjeet ADR,BAU to co-operate with you. Only a few days back I met him personally.

You are absolutely right.

PAU has already recommended filled Ng of polythene bags 6 inches long filled with FYM:SOIL 50 :50; and 21 days old seedling has been found to be of best age to get good results.This technology already exists in PAU PACKAGE FOR KHARIF CROPS.

However, farmers are not making it a choice despite great benefit.This is main issue.
