In August 2017, a hail storm damaged a blueberry field in southern Quebec, Canada. Fruits that were ripe and ready to harvest were particularly affected (i.e., deep bruise in epidermis). A week later, the entomofauna that would have been normally observed in an undamaged blueberry field was replaced by insects able to oviposit on soft tissues, such as Dipterans of various families. The effect was a premature drop of hailed fruits that were attacked by these Dipterans. The bruises in the epidermis also allowed the entry of bacteria.
