Without Laboratory experiments, is there any analytical method available to predict/model the stress path for the coal seams, which shall be very much useful in Depletion CBM operations and better long term production simulations w.r.t depeltion. I am pretty sure the conventional method for stress path determination is not going to work for coals.
Why not? Conventional methods of geomechanical modeling based on geophysics and dynamic tests are suitable for predicting the stresses of CBM fields.

Unlike conventional clastic rocks, coal seam behaves very differently during production (depletion) due to matrix shrinkage, which often results in very high stress path more than 1. However, through conventional methods, stress path never goes beyond ~1. Few authors have done (Espinoza, Mitra..etc) detailed experimental work, still analytical way to derive the stress path for coal is not yet clear (?).
Dear Karthikeyan Gunasekaran, I can tell from my experience that under some conditions a stress gradient can be higher than 1 psi/ft. As for the depletion, the question is really insufficiently studied.
