Thinking about the economic rationale rather than the public health rationale, are Government interventions justified to reduce alcohol consumption? If so, what interventions will be most successful? I've been looking at supply side short-run interventions and long-run demand side interventions. Empirical evidence seems to be incomplete in almost all areas so it is very difficult to justify any judgement on this topic. I believe that yes there is an economic rationale, but justifying the answer is not so simple!
