Hello everyone,
I have a dish of parasitised red blood cells growing in a RPMI medium containing serum, gentamycin, and hypoxanthine.The culture has been contaminated with Candida albicans. Does anyone know a way to treat them. Or should I simply trash this culture.
As a preventive measure I have isolated this dish from the rest of my cultures already.

Hello, Candida is in blood stream, the condition is called Candidemia. Your question is same as Candidemia treated. See attached info.

Natamycin is a nontoxic antifungal with activity against candida which is available as an eyedrop for human use. It comes as a 5% suspension I believe.You would need to check the preservative and inert ingredients.
U cannot treat already contaminated dish but media prepared using antifungal agent can avoid. But again it matters the contaminant isolate should not be resistant to agent u added.
