Hi all,

I have a list of ~1500 woody species planted in Swiss cities. I was hoping to find a standardized way to determine the geographic origin. A continental scale would be fine enough (North America, Europe, South America...). I preferentially work in R.

I know I can download the species occurences from gbif, but I think they don't define the native geographic range. The IUCN lists do, but I am not sure how many species they cover. Also, I would have to resort to spatial analysis and I'd rather keep this simple.

So, can someone point me in the right direction? A lookup table would be the dream.

Thanks in advance,

Benno
