Formative assessment is evaluation about HOW a student does a learning activity, typically with feedback about how to improve.  Summative assessment of giving the student  grade based on performance.

There are some learning activities that are very hard, or impossible, to evaluate for a grade, yet students DO learn from them, develop motivation, etc.

How should we incorporate such activities that do not directly get graded into the syllabus, lesson plan, etc?  Should we have learning activities that are not graded?

Is there a role for learning activities that are not evaluated for a grade?
