I would like to know if there are publications that describe any relationship between the genetic load of a plant (using chloroplast markers trnL-F/rps16) and its association with the production of secondary metabolites. I've been looking around and I haven't been able to find good papers about this topic. Can you colleagues give me a hand?. Thank you!!!

Of course there is a relationship between genetics and secondary metabolite production in plants. All of these metabolites are made by a range of enzymes, encoded by genes, and the expression of these are controlled by a range of, often specific, transcription factors, also encoded by genes. There are many papers describing these genes and also the genetics of secondary metabolite composition in many plant species. I am surprised you can't find any.
So, perhaps you mean something else? That would explain your reference to "genetic load" of a plant and chloroplast markers. I am not sure what you mean with that. Chloroplast markers are often used to distinguish species, but are poor to distinguish genetic variation within a species. Perhaps you can explain this?

Genes regulate production of various enzymes/proteins involved in metabolic pathways. Thus genes are associated with various metabolite production. Of course, the expression of genes in the metabolite production may vary in different populations of a plant species due to genetic, epi-genetic and environmental factors. Chloroplast markers are generally used for distinguishing species but rarely used to find variation within a species. Your search may not yield satisfactory result. Please see the link :

yes , we did come across this type of relationship while we were working on chemical prospecting and DNA finger printing of Andrographis paniculata . The accessions collected from southern India had higher andrographolide content than their North Indian counterparts. Even genetic profile of these accessions showed considerable differences. Even our transgenic studies on Bacopa monneiri when we overexpressed either DXS or HMGR resulted in enhanced bacoside content.Unlike crop sp where genomic resources are rich we donot have good markers to select genotypes with high secondary metabolites content.
