In the modern world, dangerous and inhumane things happen on a daily basis. Various states, politicians, statesmen, public figures violate the norms of civilized behavior, they do not respect human rights and violate international law.
Would it be good for RG members through a debate to establish a sort of "Russell's court", (Tribunal), to evaluate and criticize the bad and intolerable actions of important subjects in the modern world.
There's some sense to this, of course. And there's very possibly something good that might come of it. But there's big problems as well, at least potentially.
1. Not all RG members have sufficient ability/experience/background to do a good job. Some vetting would be needed. From whom?
2. Not all members of RG are what they purport to be. There are some very crude ideologues, for example. I have reported one who has lost his membership. I suspect there are government managed groups purporting to be individuals seeking to undermine western culture. Yes this sounds like paranoia (and might be) but I suspect I came across one. I reported the supposed individual, and "he" disappeared from RG. There are members who troll other members. I had one of these who I reported to RG AND to Google! They disappeared as well!
So I'm not convinced it's a workable suggestion. Better to raise an appropriate group through a different forum.
Christopher NOCK
I fully agree with Mr. Christopher Nock
ResearchGate must remain a professional network for scientists and researchers, not a court.
Dear Christopher Nock,
Dear Florian Glodeanu,
I thought that the attitude of the scientist should be some sort of moral assessment of a social phenomenon, and not be a kind of court case. I mentioned an example of the so-called. Russell's tribunal.
Because, a scientist must be a brave man. He must help the truth against the falsehood. The scientist must not be silent - he must speak.
It must have a critical view of the phenomenon in society. The scientist must not fall under the influence of the authorities. The scientist applies the rule: cogito ergo sum (I think, therefore, I exist). That is, I criticize, therefore, I exist. A scientist must not be a conformist. I mean, a scientist must show his scientific, professional attitude to social phenomena.
Regards.
Inhumane and dangerous actions, that might be results of skewed and misguided views of the world should be condemned by any person of reason. Learnt people, in which scientists at the higher position should see, evaluate and condemn such actions. Scientists should be , not only people who do their own jobs but arbiters of truth. They have to be vanguard of truth so that society lives better and longer.
Dear Harun and Dejenie,
I don't doubt for a moment it's a noble cause. But I'm now old and tired. The pursuit of truth and the battle against wrongdoing has worn me to the core. Silence and sleep appeal the most. And there's the rub, I'm afraid. Good people tire. The bad is relentless.
If I may be permitted a little sarcasm? Thank you:
1. To be is to do (Descartes).
2. To do is to be (Sartre).
3. Do be, do be, do....(Sinatra).
Which I think sums up the phases of my life somehow. I'm well into the "Strangers in the Night" phase now. Lost in my own little world. Decades ago the suggestions here would have appealed to my younger mind. Now, there's been to much nastiness in the world for just too long...sleep now.
But please do keep up the good work! You have my blessings on that....

You have certainly broached up a very insightful question. Generally speaking, many strongly believe that the world of academia should only focus on matters of academic and intellectual interest. However, World scholars , at least to me, are morally obligated to their communities and also to global events happening around them . Therefore, reacting to inhumane and dangerous policies in the world is axiologically a permanent responsibility of every academician . I believe that the pen of a scholar is mightier than the power of corrupted political systems.
“[Science] is not perfect. It can be misused. It is only a tool. But it is by far the best tool we have, self-correcting, ongoing, applicable to everything. It has two rules. First: there are no sacred truths; all assumptions must be critically examined; arguments from authority are worthless. Second: whatever is inconsistent with the facts must be discarded or revised. ... The obvious is sometimes false; the unexpected is sometimes true” - Carl Sagan

Dear Christopher Nock,
From your philosophical discussion radiates a healthy and youthful mind. You say: "The search for the truth and the fight against abuse has led me to the core".
Your great observation has an educational sense. And your sarcasm has a big message.
Your words conquer the mind:
"Which I think sums up the phases of my life somehow. I'm well into the 'Strangers in the Night' phase now. Lost in my own little world. Decades ago the suggestions here would have appealed to my younger mind. Now, there's been to much nastiness in the world for just too long...sleep now.
But please do keep up the good work! You have my blessings on that...."
Thank you very much for that.

A very stimulating question. It would be rather difficult for RG scientists to become the world's police clamping down on social injustice or immorality. Not every member is qualified to be a judge, not everyone has the skills to be impartial and objective. Even the United Nations does not seem to be very effective in clamping down all of the world injustices. Thus, the most RG or its members can do is to have civil discussions on topics of interest without putting down any other member and hope that the discussion would pick momentum and some grass roots level activism may emerge. As it is even in RG there are many nay-sayers about climate change!
Dear Michael T. Takac,
There are many enigmatic questions ahead of us:
Where are you going my world?
What brings us tomorrow?
Will there be war or peace?
Will a meteor hit us or burn a volcano or kill an epidemic?
Will the ozone layer break down and finally come to total global warming?
In such a constellation what can scientists do?
But there is no abandonment. Scientists are the consciousness and reason of mankind.
How to interpret a quotation from your post:
"Observing our rights through the prism of science will provoke questions, nurture wisdom and perhaps advance our philosophical reforms in morality, economics, and the rule of law as we travel the endless road to utopia."
Regards.
Dear Vadim S. Gorshkov,
I think you are only partially right because Einstein, Sakharov, Verner von Braun and many other scientists have not given their consent to killing people.
Also, Jean Paul Sartre and Bertrand Russell raised their voices against the stupid Vietnam war.
Today, there are many reasons for the reaction of the scientist.
Yugoslav Nobel laureate Ivo Andric once said:
"If people know how little intelligence manages the world, they would die of fear."
I wonder - dear Gorshkov, where is our place?
Regards.
Dear Harun Hadžić,
Thank you for your interest. Good questions! I’ll try to answer:
“Where are you going my world?” The world morphed into a local neighborhood.
“What brings us tomorrow?” Evolution (aka constructal law), it’s unstoppable.
“Will a meteor hit us or burn a volcano or kill an epidemic?” Yes!
“Will the ozone layer break down and finally come to total global warming?” Climate does change, life adapts.
“In such a constellation what can scientists do?” Expedite philosophical reformation from discovery.
“Scientists are the consciousness and reason of mankind.” Are scientists so righteous? Perhaps, the ones who claim to be, are wearing clothes made in slave labor camps.
“How to interpret a quotation from your post: …” I’m working on a fifth edition of said “quotation,” to be out later this year. Researching the constructal law relative to social evolution may yield some positive results in reason and ethics.
Regards,
Mike
Marco Portius Catton, the Roman senator often said: Ceterum censeo Cartaginem esse delendam (I think that Cartagina should be destroy).
Today we will not destroy Cartagina, but in the context of the current Munich security conference we must say: Angela Merkel needs to be supported.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel makes a plea for multilate:
"We need NATO as an anchor of stability on a stormy sea. We need it as a community of shared values. We should never forget that NATO was not founded only as a military alliance but as an alliance of nations that share values, that share the same values as regards human rights, as regards democracy — guidelines that we all share."

There have been innumerable cases of writers who have been hounded and persecuted for their views and we live in a world less than tolerant towards freedom of expression. Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Boris Pasternak, and in recent times Salman Rushdie are a few of them. At one time or the other the writer's opinions and attitudes are going to collide with that of the rulers and only those who are ready to face the state persecution are capable of attempting a task like the one that is being discussed under this thread. This must be especially difficult for people who live in the liberal democracies of the West to understand.
Good point Nazir! It's certainly different in the liberal-democracies. But I fear the restraints and censure (and, indeed, punishments) are more subtle here. But, sure, they're far less brutal than they can be elsewhere.
NOCK
I think a permanent dialogue between peoples must last, continue in all its dimensions and topics.
That's why a moral court is needed.
First of all, scientists need to make their point.
Scholars, researchers, intellectuals have responsibility to stand against inequalities, cruealities, injustice, harm, being done against all living beings. This will be a good to know for every one that many intellectuals on RG are quite doing the opposite for fellow colleagues, researchers....
Examples, I encountered!(not complaining, just sharing in relevance to question)
IS instead of is,(It was learning opportunity for me, the subtle nature of human behaviors, amazing!...) written bold and capitalized by some of prestigious intellectuals to maximize their point of view against religion(relative to) for answering any type of question, that were not remotely associated with religion.
Making fun of country, gender, religion are some of occurances happened with me, not once, repeatedly, and it is not ended, and I know it will not end....
List is lengthy......point is, if we are not dealing each other, with justice, equality and respect......then the whole world...?
If only, intellectuals could play their role with positive mindset, and neutralness...world will be far better place to live for future generations.
Dear Nazia Asad,
A contemporary man, and especially a scientist, researcher or politician, must be tolerant of the freedom of religion. Freedom of religion is one of the basic human rights.
Unfortunately we have different thoughts.
But, we prefer all the freedoms and rights of man. Here's an interesting statement:
"Religious freedom is the right not only to believe, but also the right not to believe. Modern understanding of religious freedoms and rights means that a citizen has the right to participate in a religious ceremony, but also the right not to participate in it. Thus, the contemporary concept of religious freedom implies the freedom of religion, as well as freedom from religion.
Freedom of religion is considered to be one of the fundamental human rights in most of today's world, and as such it is also codified in Art. 18 Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In 1791, in the first amendment to the Constitution of the United States, it was formulated that the Congress would not pass any law that establishes a religion or prohibits its free expression."
Regards.
The US Constitution was not in favour of religious freedom, it was against the founding of an established church such as that in England. This was because the population there were from various Christian backgrounds including Catholic. Catholics were still being persecuted in England.
The Established Church later evolved into a quite tolerant institution which can be seen on Armistice Day every year when representatives of all the major religions are present. The English also worked hard on toleration in Canada. In London, Ontario public discussion of the Irish "problem" was forbidden to help avoid sectarian violence.
Nazir
I'm sorry to hear of you bad experiences on RG. There is no need to put up with abusive comments from idiots. RG will help you manage these people. I could give some advice on that if you felt you needed it.
Best wishes

The text of the first amendment to the American Constitution reads as follows:
Amendment 1
- Freedom of Religion, Speech, and the Press
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
https://nccs.net/blogs/americas-founding-documents/bill-of-rights-amendments-1-10
There's little point us arguing about. I make no claim to be a US Constitutional expert! Heaven forbid!
What I do know is that the core concern was to disallow the state establishment of a particular church. And this was only dealing with Christian sects:Catholic, German, Dutch, English, Swedish Protestantism etc. It didn't include native religions, Islam, Confucianism etc, etc.
Of course, you might say these were implicitly included. But that's another matter.

What would happen to Alfred Drayfus, that there was no reaction by Emile Zola and Bernard Lazare?
Emile Zola wrote a letter to French President Félix Faure on January 13, 1898? The letter was published under the heading J'Accuse ...!
This case has shown that public figures, writers, scientists, etc. By their action, they can save people's lives and dignity and can warn of violating human rights.
J'Accuse...! (French pronunciation: [ʒaˈkyz], "I Accuse...!") was an open letter published on 13 January 1898 in the newspaper L'Aurore by the influential writer Émile Zola.
In the letter, Zola addressed President of France Félix Faure and accused the government of anti-Semitism and the unlawful jailingof Alfred Dreyfus, a French Army General Staff officer who was sentenced to lifelong penal servitude for espionage. Zola pointed out judicial errors and lack of serious evidence. The letter was printed on the front page of the newspaper and caused a stir in France and abroad. Zola was prosecuted for libel and found guilty on 23 February 1898. To avoid imprisonment, he fled to England, returning home in June 1899.
Other pamphlets proclaiming Dreyfus's innocence include Bernard Lazare's A Miscarriage of Justice: The Truth about the Dreyfus Affair (November 1896). As a result of the popularity of the letter, even in the English-speaking world, J'accuse! has become a common generic expression of outrage and accusation against someone powerful.

Dear Harun Hadžić,
First, there is an obligation to react individually, as a citizen, in our country, whether or not we are RG members. I have no doubt about the good intentions on the proposal, but I have (unfortunately) some doubts about its effectiveness nowadays.
Dear Carlos Alberto Matos,
You are right, every citizen has the right to express his opinion on social events. This true right of different nations in history has been shown through many revolutions. Also, the modern constitution of any democratic state gives citizens the right to launch an initiative, or to demonstrate their views and opinions through demonstrations. But, I think the so-called. the intellectual elite has the stronger right to appeal to conscientious objection and to direct their views to the public.
Thank you and best regards.
Dear Harun Hadžić,
I agree that as RG scientists we have some moral responsibility, but usually (accustomed as I am) I react more as an artist rather than a researcher, the effects are more immediate (wider audience).
Dear all,
Does the RG community have to exist only as some kind of unconnected and an unorganized whole, or must it always respond to social problems as a subjet?
Do RG scientists just have to fight for points, to publish their works, personal achievements and egoistic goals, or should they react to important problems in the world?
We must agree that science can not be an end in itself. Her task is to improve the established truths and strengthen the position of man and citizen in the state and the entire the whole humanity.
The RG-scientific community must not be on the "tail" of social events, but should continuously monitor whether, for example, the practical policy in the state and the international community implements valid norms and standards and tha's responds in a timely manner to the benefit of applying positive behavioral rules. This is, in my opinion, the foremost task of a scientists.
Regards.
Dear Harun Hadžić,
The scientist’s task is to discover, where discovery reforms philosophy as philosophy guides science, and there is no reason why this cycle should ever end until the end of reason.
There is a lot of philosophy in the social sciences, and since humanity is a product of the physical laws of nature, the key is to find those physical laws in nature that links the social domain to the physical. For no philosophy or man-made law can change a physical law in nature.
Good point about “norms and standards”! A good place to start is nothing is free! Even the air we breathe is not free, for it takes bio-energy to take your next breath and that energy comes from food. It takes energy to produce or find food (aka work); hence, the first law in thermodynamics.
The question becomes, how many philosophies are going to resist the concept that nothing is free?
The next task is to reform philosophy that equality in the social and physical domains does not exist. Equality is only an abstract construct, where in nature, inequality is the norm.
Imagine the global philosophical reformation via elementary education starting with these two simple physical facts that: nothing is free, and inequality is the norm.
But I regret to say, there is a good chance political demagoguery will resist such education.
Regards.
Best regards for February 21, International Mother Language Day.
"International Mother Language Day has been observed every year since 21. February 2000 to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.
At least 43% of the estimated 6000 languages spoken in the world are endangered. Only a few hundred languages have genuinely been given a place in education systems and the public domain, and less than a hundred are used in the digital world."
The idea to celebrate International Mother Language Day was the initiative of Bangladesh. It was approved at the 1999 UNESCO General Conference and has been observed throughout the world since 2000.
“Indigenous peoples have always expressed their desire for education in their own languages, as set out in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Since 2019 is the International Year of Indigenous Languages, the theme of this year’s International Mother Language Day will be indigenous languages as a factor in development, peace and reconciliation.
Indigenous peoples number some 370 million and their languages account for the majority of the approximately 7,000 living languages on Earth. Many indigenous peoples continue to suffer from marginalization, discrimination and extreme poverty, and are the victims of human-rights violations."

Dear Michael T Takac,
Here's a timely warning:
German politician Doris Pak told today for the Sarajevo daily newspaper DNEVNI AVAZ: "Balkan region again, as well as in the beginning of the 1990s, is caught in chaos! If the agreement between Serbia and Kosovo on the new borders in the Balkans is realized, Bosnia will be immediately targeted, I believe Macedonia ...
The region of the Western Balkans is in a very, very dangerous situation. Announcements about a possible settlement of the division of Kosovo, the exchange of population and territory with Serbia create a very dangerous precedent and threaten to return us to the 1990s," warns Doris Pak (Pack), a prominent German politician and member of the Governing Council of the European People's Party (EPP).
-"I think that in the EU we have to be very careful and not destroy all the achievements that we have achieved after the crazy situation in the Balkans in the nineties. Of course, the issue of Kosovo and Serbia must be solved. But what we are seeing now (attempting to negotiate a change or so-called border correction) is not a solution at all" - says Pak.
Unfortunately, the EU and the UN do not take preventive measures.
https://avaz.ba/vijesti/bih/460434/doris-pak-regionu-prijeti-haos
Dear Harun Hadžić,
The “EU and the UN” are institutions designed to deal with such matters. Yes, it is unfortunate they are not taking “preventive measures,” or perhaps, not yet. It takes time to move bureaucracies. On the other hand, what can an RG scientist or group of scientists do on such current events? RG scientists may lobby behind the power of money or make noise in the media like the German politician Doris Pak is doing.
Since many RG members are affiliated with educational institutions, that is where RG can be the most effective. Educate the young minds in reason and ethics along with simple physical concepts where nothing is free, and inequality is the norm, etc., before they become members of the ruling-class.
Regards.
Dear Michael T Takac,
Doris Pak, again warns - The importance of the borders in the Balkans - the beginning of the end.
Former European Parliament Rapporteur for Bosnia and Herzegovina Doris Pack says no change in the borders in the Balkans should be allowed.
She said she can not understand that the presidents of Serbia and Kosovo, Aleksandar Vucic and Hashim Thaci, support such a policy.
"I think that the question of changing the borders in the Balkans or South East Europe is something we must not allow. If you are really aware of what happened in recent years in these countries of the region, you must not be bound to change the borders. If this starts, it's the beginning of the end" Pak said in an interview with Radio Free Europe.

“To transform the world, we must begin with ourselves; and what is important in beginning with ourselves is the intention. The intention must be to understand ourselves and not to leave it to others to transform themselves…This is our responsibility, yours and mine; because, however small may be the world we live in, if we can bring about a radically different point of view in our daily existance, then perhaps we shall affect the world at large.”
J. Krishnamurti “Self Knowledge” in The First and Last Freedom.
Dear Carlos Alberto Matos,
I agree with you - we all have to start with ourselves. And the sacred books say that "Neither God will repair the state of one nation until this people remodel themselves."
We in the Balkans must, each in our own home - state, establish a friendly attitude towards another nation, people or minority. We must guard the speech of hatred, propaganda, provocation and the values of other peoples, cultures and religions.
But in our reality, we have a big problem: How, after a bloody and genocidal war, restore lost trust among the once-warring parties and restore peace, stability, co-existence, cooperation and forget war.
In the former Yugoslavia, there is still a nationalist ideology that wants to, by will or force, change established state borders, to assume other territories and to create its own ethnically pure national state. This is a huge problem.
I think that in the Balkans and in the former Yugoslavia, it is not possible to succeed in a lasting and stable peace without the help of the EU and the UN and other important world factors. I personally prefer civil society, peace, dialogue, equality, human rights, the prohibition of war, the prohibition of violence, the fight against terrorism and the inclusion in Euro-Atlantic integration.
Unfortunately, the impression is that the EU and the UN do not give enough attention to the Balkans.
Not to talk about economics, business, social problems, and so on.
Regard. Harun.
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY
One struggle that is constantly going on.
"In 1975, during International Women's Year, the United Nations began celebrating 8 March as International Women's Day. Two years later, in December 1977, the General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming a United Nations Day for Women's Rights and International Peace to be observed on any day of the year by Member States, in accordance with their historical and national traditions. For the United Nations, International Women's Day has been observed on 8 March since 1975. The Day is traditionally marked with a message from the Secretary-General."
"The theme for International Women’s Day (8 March) this year (2019),“Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change”, puts innovation by women and girls, for women and girls, at the heart of efforts to achieve gender equality."

PROBLEMS OF POLITICAL STABILITY OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
Mesic: Dodik and Covic are the most difficult problem of Bosnia and Herzegovina
Former President of the Croatia and former Yugoslavia, STJEPAN STIPE MESIC, today (08.03.2019) announced for RADIOSARAJEVO.BA (my free translation):
"Reflecting on the political situation in BiH, he recalls that late Paddy Ashdown, formerly High Representative in BiH, had behind him, first and foremost, his country and the mechanisms he could exclude from politics who did not accept the rules. The problem is, he thinks that there is no such thing today."
But, according to Mesic, the main problem is in Belgrade and Zagreb that support such policies.
"Belgrade says that official Serbia is for BiH's survival, for its integrity and autonomy. And in everything they accept Milorad Dodik's policy. What is the policy of Belgrade now ?! Zagreb says that Croatia is a unique BiH, independent, progressive, European, democratic, but in general it supports Dragan Čović who pacts with Dodik together. Covic celebrates the day when the break-up of BiH begins!", Emphasized the former President of the Republic of Croatia and former Yugoslavia.
"I would like", says, "that someone has powers like Paddy Ashdown and that those who do not recognize BiH exclude him from the game."

Dear mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, colleagues
to all of you - HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY
Special greeting to all endangered women of the world.
Bitter remembrance:
Israel is holding 49 Palestinian women in detention camps, according to a Palestinian commission on Wednesday.
According to the commission, Israeli forces have arrested over 16,000 Palestinian women since 1967.
This year, the commission said, Israeli forces used “brutal methods” while arresting Palestinian women.

Dear all,
The Islamic Society is now starting its historical exam. Muslims must learn lessons from a total destruction and long-standing stagnation and backwardness. Because they are an integral part of humanity, and humanity must help Muslims get out of the crisis. Sometimes the Western world was in a similar situation - religious wars, inquisition, persecution of the Jews, bartholomew night, fascism, communism, colonialism ...
The big today's mistake of West towards the Muslims is ISLAMOFOBIA.
Let's first solve this problem then move on.
A research on Islamophobia under the title - HOW TO TAKLE ISLAMOFOBIA - the best strategies from around Europe, was conducted by Amina Easat-Daas, University of Leeds.
In the research it is said among other:
In any discussion about Islamphobia, we must start from definition: “Islamophobia is rooted in racism and is a type of racism that targets expressions of Muslimness or perceived Muslimness”.
In this research, we began by examining the most common Islamophobic ideas that circulated in some Europian countries.
For example, in France, wearing the headscarf and being visibly Muslim is viewed by some as being against French secular values and by extension contrary to being French.
Muslim women are disproportionately affected by Islamophobia. They are not only seen as a threat to the West, but they are also paradoxically portrayed as victims of an alleged Islamic sexism.
These contorted ideas must be overturned with new narratives, led by Muslim women themselves, presented via art, media and popular culture, to portray the diversity of their lives.
We, also, can found many examples of good practice when counteracting Islamophobia. For example, interfaith projects in Germany highlighted conviviality and cultural compatibility between Muslims and non-Muslims.
Art was also used in a number of cases, including Belgium and the UK, to challenge Islamophobic ideas.
Hate speech, insults and omissions of Muslims and Islam, does not contribute to peace and coexistence. This intolerant narrative must be changed by a cultural and democratic Europe and West.

Dear all,
Christian Schwarz Schilling in his article for DW commented on the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina these days, and noted that things are burdening the current situation in that country: Serbian denial of genocide in Srebrenica, gathering Chetniks in Visegrad, and Serbian nbsp; non-recognition of harsh sentences condemned by the perpetrators of genocide in Srebrenica.
He believes that the High Representative in BiH should intervene and pass a law that will punish all those who deny the genocide in Srebrenica. He cites an example of Germany that, after the Second World War, passed a law on the punishment of all those who denied the Holocaust.
If the International Community is not intervening, a new destabilization of Bosnia is possible.
Prof. dr. Christian Schwarz-Schilling was from 1982 to '92. Minister of Post and Telecommunications in the German government of Chancellor Helmut Kohl. From the protest against the German government's restraint during the war in BiH, he resigned. Ten years was an international mediator for BiH, in the period 2006-2007. he served as the High Representative in BiH. Occasionally he writes columns for DW.

Of course criminals must be punished and must endure their punishment. However, the law of rights must be respected. Human dignity must be respected. In many prisons in the world, elementary human rights and freedoms are being violated. There are many reports of NGOs about the suffering in prisons.

Unfortunately, Tramp's America has become the greatest disappointment in the modern world. It was known that Israel did not respect international law and occupy other territories, but we did not believe that a former democratic America supported Israeli occupying politics and that it violated international law flagrantly.
Look at the incredible thing about BBC News tells:
Golan Heights: Trump signs order recognising occupied area as Israeli
25 March 2019
Media caption Netanyahu praises Trump for recognising Israel control of Golan.
President Donald Trump has officially recognised Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights, seized from Syria in 1967, in a move hailed as "historic" by Israel's prime minister.
Benjamin Netanyahu, who faces an election next month, was by Mr Trump's side as he signed the proclamation.
Syria said Mr Trump's decision was a blatant attack on its sovereignty.
Israel annexed the Golan Heights in 1981, in a move that is not recognised internationally.
A spokesman for United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Monday he was "clear that the status of Golan has not changed".

Some members of the Croatian intelligence service tried to push the weapons to Muslims in Bosnia, in order to publicly present them to Europe that they are extremists who want war and which are a threat to Croatia and the whole of Europe.
This affair is happily discovered and compromised.

The Sarajevo portal saff.ba has been published these days - 20.04.2019 (my free translation):
Fra Ivo Markovic, a professor at the Franciscan Theology in Sarajevo, spoke about the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the latest tensions regarding the armament and the formation of a reserve police force in BH. entity Republika Srpska.
"People are hungry for peace in us, they are hungry for acceptance, to be hugged, some refuge. People are hungry and people in religions are looking for it. There is so much hatred on all sides, one says this is not my Bosnia", he said.
Asked if people had time and space and the opportunity to rejoice in the resurrection of Hirst in this ambient and political moment.
"What you're talking about that reserve police, it's a direct preparation for the war. War is being prepared here. We still have the idiots who waged war now. I'm reading Dodik saying that their is Serbia, Serbia, there is no Bosnia for him. Well, that's just an idiot can say. People, his Serbs, live in Bosnia, so much wars, he continues in the same language. It's all over the place. It is impossible to live together, we must divide. Such a policy forces people in fear. Fear is the most dangerous environment in which people live. So now this is our Bosnia, people are fleeing from it", said Fr Markovic.
"From Bosnia, however, from this, everything will get something good. The most important thing is that we do not have a war. From the Dayton Agreement there is some devious seed", said Fr Ivo Markovic.
"I heard about politicians and religious high people that Bosnia will hold this way so that they will split. I think that Bosnia can not be divided. These war policies, Dodik and Covic, work directly on the division of Bosnia and prove to people that Bosnia is not their country. This is a preparation for war for me, that is the preparation of the reserve police. What should we do? Bosnia is a multiethnic, multireligious society. We give every man, religion, nation, to mature in his identity, live freely. We all live together, we are part of the statehood of one nation of Bosnia", said Fr Markovic, among other things, in the New Day at N1.
Guardian announces footage: Croats harass migrants
The British Guardian came into possession of recordings to hear the voices of migrants claiming to have been beaten by Croatian policemen in an attempt to cross from Bosnia and Herzegovina to Croatia.
An unsettling footage was posted on the Guardian website.
The newspaper states that it is about migrants from Algeria, Syria and Pakistan.
They say they were brutally beaten up and then returned back to BiH, the British diary reported.
The video shows the voices of migrants who claim that Croatian policemen break bones for one man, and then a man whose face is covered with blood.

Defence for Children International Palestine (DCIP) paints a bleak prospect for Palestinian children in revealing that in 2018, at least 56 were killed by Israel. Individuals who witnessed some of the murders have insisted that the targeted children were unarmed and posed no threat to the state or its citizens.
Palestinian children have been killed by Israeli army snipers, drones and security forces across the occupied Palestinian territories. Five of the murdered children were under 12 years of age. In Gaza, 49 children were murdered by Israel in activities pertaining to the Great March of Return protests."

South Africa now has one of the worst HIV epidemics in the world, with 7.1 million people, or slightly less than 19% of the population living with that virus. The black population in South Africa is disproportionately affected by this disease, writes Guardian.
The claims that their mercenaries actively spread AIDS in South Africa in the 1980s and 1990s were published in the documentary Cold Case Hammarskjold, which was premiered this year at the Sundance Film Festival.
These claims were made by Alexander Jones, who for years served as an intelligence agent at the South African Maritime Research Institute (SAIMR), three decades ago, when he organized coups and other violence across Africa.

Sarajevo portal Saff.ba writes, parafrazing:
(By Edhem al-Sherkavi / Abduusamed Nasuf Bušatlić)
On that day, May 7, 1770, a law banning the makeup was adopted in Britain.
The Preamble of the Act reads: "Women who use cosmetics are bastards and deceivers who are tempted to conquer members of the Royal Highness, encouraging them to marry for them using disgusting techniques and preparations such as perfumes, colors, cosmetic baths, artificial teeth, wigs, wool products Breastplates for breast enlargement, rings and earrings, and high heels. These women are cheaters and their marriages are considered invalid".
Many years ago, the famous Arabic poet el-Mutenebbi sang songs in which he boasted the natural beauty of women - bedouins, mocking women from the city who use cosmetics to beautify.
In any case, the Chinese seemed to be realistic when they said: "A woman loves with her ear and a man with hees eye". Then came those who added the sentence to that ancient saying, saying: "A woman loves with her ear, and a man with hees eye, so men lie, and women use cosmetics."
How to protect an ecologically healthy nature: food, water, air, fruit, vegetables?
How to protect the health of people from various poisons and toxic substances, chemicals, metals, plastics ...?
What is the effect of these substances on human health?
See what Guardian writes:
"The average person eats at least 50,000 particles of microplastic a year and breathes in a similar quantity, according to the first study to estimate human ingestion of plastic pollution.
The true number is likely to be many times higher, as only a small number of foods and drinks have been analysed for plastic contamination. The scientists reported that drinking a lot of bottled water drastically increased the particles consumed.
The health impacts of ingesting microplastic are unknown, but they could release toxic substances. Some pieces are small enough to penetrate human tissues, where they could trigger immune reactions.
Microplastic pollution is mostly created by the disintegration of plastic litter and appears to be ubiquitous across the planet. Researchers find microplastics everywhere they look; in the air, soil, rivers and the deepest oceans around the world.
They have been detected in tap and bottled water, seafood and beer. They were also found in human stool samples for the first time in October, confirming that people ingest the particles.
The new research, published in the journal Environmental Science and Technology, took the data from 26 previous studies that measure the amounts of microplastic particles in fish, shellfish, sugar, salt, beer and water, as well as in the air in cities.
The scientists then used US government dietary guidelines to calculate how many particles people would eat in a year. Adults eat about 50,000 microplastic particles a year and children about 40,000, they estimated..."

Commitments agreed at UN conference in Kenya do not go far enough, say green groups

Environmental groups involved in talks at a United Nations conference in Kenya have accused the US of blocking an ambitious global response to plastic pollution.
Representatives of countries at the UN environment conference in Nairobi this week agreed to significantly reduce single-use plastics over the next decade but the voluntary pledges fell far short of what was required, according to green groups.
Norway, Japan and Sri Lanka had put forward proposals for a legally binding agreement for nations to coordinate action against plastic litter in the oceans and microplastics. India also suggested strong action with a resolution to phase out single-use plastic across the world.
But a coalition of environmental groups at the conference condemned the US for blocking the ambitious attempts to tackle plastic pollution at source as well as downstream.
An initial ministerial statement at the beginning of the event had proposed a commitment to “phase out single-use plastics ... by 2025”, a far stronger promise than the compromise nations reached".

How to help Bosnia become part of the modern world?
US Congressman, Republican Adam Kinzinger, called out the Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik's party the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) for obstructing Bosnia's path to NATO and the formation of the government.
"Its been almost 25 years since the Dayton Peace Agreement ended the war in Bosnia. However, Russia has used this time to support nationalist politicians within [the Republika Srpska], the main belligerents of the Bosnian war that employed genocide and killed more than 100,000 people. Last October, Bosnia held legislative elections. Since [then], they've been unable to form a government given disagreements between pro-Western political parties and the nationalist Serb parties over what the relationship in Bosnia should have with NATO. Staunch anti-NATO sentiment and threatened secession from Bosnia has been the staple of the Russian-backed Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) who have, in effect, been blocking the government formation over NATO accession", Kinzinger said addressing the Congress.

July 20
AT A SESSION of the U.N. Human Rights Council this month, 22 mostly Western ambassadors joined in a letter expressing concern about China’s mass detentions in the Xinjiang region and calling for “meaningful access” for “independent international observers.” It was another tepid gesture in what has been a weak international effort to respond to Beijing’s campaign of cultural genocide against the Uighur ethnic group and other Muslim minorities.
What was remarkable was what came next. Four days later, countries recruited by Beijing delivered their own letter to the council, signed by 37 ambassadors, which endorsed what it whitewashed as a “counter-terrorism and de-radicalization” operation and claimed that “the fundamental human rights of people of all ethnic groups there are safeguarded.” The signatories included the usual global rogue’s gallery — Cuba, Russia, North Korea, Venezuela. But a dozen Muslim governments also joined in — thereby sanctioning one of the largest assaults on Islam in modern times.

Why Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, president of Croatia, who wants to be re-elected soon, relies on anti-Muslim propaganda?
Wherever they can, they do not talk about their own country, but about their neighbors. Many Croatian politicians have the fixed idea that they should interfere in Bosnia-Herzegovina. At the meeting with her Israeli counterpart Reuven Rivlin, Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović said last week that Bosnia-Herzegovina is "very unstable" and "under the control of militant Islam" according to the Jerusalem Post.
In Bosnia-Herzegovina, her false claims are now seen as an attack. The Croatian member of the Bosnian state presidency, Željko Komšić, said that Grabar-Kitarović is rather "unstable" but not his homeland. He is sorry that she continues "her propaganda activities that harm Bosnia-Herzegovina by spreading brutal lies" Komsic said. The reason is her malicious attitude towards Bosnia.

In the eyes of the civilized world, the war against Bosnia and Herzegovina lasted for almost four years. The United Nations and the EU did not intervene in a timely manner to protect this invading state and human rights.
The Bosnian War (Bosnian Serbo-Croatian: Rat u Bosni i Hercegovini / Рат у Босни и Херцеговини) was an international armed conflict that took place in Bosnia and Herzegovinabetween 1992 and 1995. Following a number of violent incidents in early 1992, the war is commonly viewed as having started on 6 April 1992. The war ended on 14 December 1995. The main belligerents were the forces of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and those of the self-proclaimed Bosnian Serb and Bosnian Croat entities within Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republika Srpska and Herzeg-Bosnia, which were led and supplied by Serbiaand Croatia, respectively. An Alabama judge has ordered that a man who robbed a bakery of $50.75 be released from his life sentence.
Alvin Kennard, 58, was handed the harsh sentence under strict rules introduced in the 1970s to deter repeat offenders.
The ruling provoked an emotional reaction from friends and family, who have been visiting Kennard throughout his incarceration.
His lawyer, Carla Crowder, said he was "overwhelmed at this opportunity" and would be looked after by family.
He wanted to take up his former job as a carpenter, she added.
In 1983, when he was 22 years old, Kennard robbed a bakery with a knife. Although there were no injuries, he was sentenced to life without parole.
He had previously pleaded guilty to a burglary, meaning he had breached the old Habitual Felony Offender Act, otherwise known as the Three Strikes Law.

Muslim Americans say they’ve been singled out, detained and interrogated at airports – and elected officials are no exception.
Mohamed Khairullah, the longtime mayor of Prospect Park, said he was held for three hours at JFK International Airport last month, questioned about whether he knew any terrorists and forced to hand over his phone.
“It was definitely a hurtful moment where I’m thinking in my mind that this is not the America that I know,” said Khairullah, a public-school administrator. “I am very familiar with our laws and Constitution, and everything that was going on there was a violation.”
Khairullah’s story mirrors that of many travelers, who believe they are singled out because of their faith when they are pulled aside for secondary screenings and searches. Civil liberties advocates say Muslim Americans are disproportionately detained and have had their electronic devices searched or seized.

President Trump and Human Rights?
An adaptation published Tuesday of the upcoming book "Border Wars: Inside Trump’s Assault on Immigration," details President Trump's plans to secure the southern border with snake-filled trenches and shooting migrants in the legs to slow them down.
The big picture: The book by New York Times reporters Michael D. Shear and Julie Hirschfeld Davis is based on interviews with more than a dozen anonymous White House and administration officials involved in Trump's attempts to implement immigration policy and fulfill his campaign promises on the issue.
What they're saying:
"Privately, the president had often talked about fortifying a border wall with a water-filled trench, stocked with snakes or alligators, prompting aides to seek a cost estimate. He wanted the wall electrified, with spikes on top that could pierce human flesh. After publicly suggesting that soldiers shoot migrants if they threw rocks, the president backed off when his staff told him that was illegal. But later in a meeting, aides recalled, he suggested that they shoot migrants in the legs to slow them down. That’s not allowed either, they told him."

STOCKHOLM – Twenty prisoners live in one small room. They are handcuffed, their heads shaved, every move is monitored by ceiling cameras. A bucket in the corner of the room is their toilet. The daily routine begins at 6 A.M. They are learning Chinese, memorizing propaganda songs and confessing to invented sins. They range in age from teenagers to elderly. Their meals are meager: cloudy soup and a slice of bread.
Torture – metal nails, fingernails pulled out, electric shocks – takes place in the “black room.” Punishment is a constant. The prisoners are forced to take pills and get injections. It’s for disease prevention, the staff tell them, but in reality they are the human subjects of medical experiments. Many of the inmates suffer from cognitive decline. Some of the men become sterile. Women are routinely raped.

On International Human Rights Day, the Swedish Academy of Sciences awards the Nobel Peace Prize to Peter Handke, a man who denies human rights abuses against the Bosnian population. This is a man who denies the crime of genocide in Srebrenica, Bosnia, as ruled by the highest courts in the world. Really a shame.

I still stand behind my 2012 article on why the EU did not deserve the Nobel Peace Prize that year. Twenty years later, we are still discovering new mass graves,” Domi said.
US administration pursues state terrorism ???
What can be deduced from the Guardian's text, entitled: Suleimani killing the latest in a long, grim line of US assassination efforts:
The US government is no stranger to the dark arts of political assassinations. Over the decades it has deployed elaborate techniques against its foes, from dispatching a chemist armed with lethal poison to try to take out Congo’s Patrice Lumumba in the 1960s to planting poison pills (equally unsuccessfully) in the Cuban leader Fidel Castro’s food.
But the killing of Gen Qassem Suleimani, the leader of Iran’s elite military Quds force, was in in a class all its own. Its uniqueness lay not so much in its method – what difference does it make to the victim if they are eviscerated by aerial drone like Suleimani, or executed following a CIA-backed coup, as was Iraq’s ruler in 1963, Abdul Karim Kassem? – but in the brazenness of its execution and the apparently total disregard for either legal niceties or human consequences.
Donald Trump’s gloating tweets over the killing combined with a sparse effort to justify the action in either domestic or international law has led to the US being accused of the very crimes it normally pins on its enemies. Iran’s foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, denounced the assassination as an “act of international terrorism”.
Vipin Narang, a political scientist at MIT, said the killing “wasn’t deterrence, it was decapitation”.

At the Davos Economic Forum, the US president said the US economy was the first in the world.
See what the Washington Post wrote earlier:
It’s almost impressive. President Trump has now made 15,413 false or misleading claims over his 1,055 days in office, according to The Washington Post. That’s an average of nearly 15 every single day. The rate of the president’s mistruths appears to have rapidly accelerated this year, more than doubling the total number for his three years in office. The newspaper’s Fact Checker states that, in 2017, Trump made 1,999 false or misleading claims, then added 5,689 in 2018 for a year-end total of 7,688. Trump crossed the 10,000 mark this year on April 26, but has shot well above 15,000 with a few weeks of 2019 left to go. His most repeated claim, which accounts for 242 of the total, is that the U.S. economy is the best in history. The key reason for this year’s jump is his call with Ukraine’s president on July 25 and the resulting impeachment inquiry. The Post reports that around 600 of the false or misleading claims made by the president in the past two months directly relate to the Ukraine investigation.

Why does Israel not respect UN decisions on Palestine?
United Nations — Israeli forces sent demolition vehicles on November 3 to bulldoze a small Palestinian village, leaving some 70 civilians, including 41 children, homeless, the United Nations said. It was part of the largest forced displacement carried out by the Israeli government in years, according to the U.N.Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
The action in a small settlement in the Jordan Valley known as Khirbet Humsa was filmed by the U.N. agency as well as an Israeli human rights group. The images showed beds, cribs and other family belongings left on the dusty ground of the village.
