This a quit interesting pathway, I'm working on the enrichment of compost by antagonist microorganisms against root knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.). the way we found efficient for this purpose is to mass culture the antagonist through solid state fermentation (SSF) on organic substrate and add it after maturation phase of the compost. The scope is to add the antagonist to a stabilized compost with least oxygen consumption in order to avoid competition with other microorganisms that are active during mesophile and thermophile phase.

still we need to know that which group of BCAs are suitable for compost enrichment. Bacillus and Trichoderma could be good candidate. however mix of Microorganisms is better idea. There is a product for vermicompost enrichment but I had no experience with that.

however I believe that enriched compost could act as promised biocontrol product and it will solve problem of BCAs formulation.

i am working in erichment vermicompost and compost. in my opinnion enrichment BCAs compost depend compost phase, because much BCAs no tolerate high temeperatures o low oxigen. applications of trichoderma, for example I REALIZED compost mesophilict last phase, because temperature is optime.

yes its logic. mesophilic phase seems to be a best time for compost enrichment. how about vermicompost?? as you know we have no thermophilic phase in vermicompost production. there we can add BCAs earlier.

Vermicompost enrichment is a research project I'm working on currently with french partners, it's common that thermophilic phase doesn't occur in vermicomposting, but in our case, tomato waste (leaves and stems), we should compost them and inoculate them during maturing phase with Eisenia fetida and Dendrobeana aurtensis. So choosing between compost and vermicompost depends largely on the origin of the raw materiel (waste for agronomists).

In vermicompostthe BCAS use depend the time of vermicompost. Because i used trichoderma e¿in eralier phase, is very usefull in descomposition and acelerate the process of transformation of organic waste in vermicompos, but phisyc chemical analisis vermicompost is very low in carbon organic and another nutrients, because trichoderma activity. Now i aplicated trichoderma in last phase vermicompost or when i pack vermicompost.

Inoculation depends on technique of compost quality improvement. Are you interested to enrich compost during composting or after composting? For during composting inoculation should be done after thermophic stage when temperature reduced to 30-35 o C. For fortification  during post composting, trichoderm mother culture may be inoculated in homogenazied compost with sufficient moisture and incubated for few days for proliferation. For vermicomposting as predigested materials are use  to feed the worm bio-control agents may be inoculated  in ingested material as it contains reactive biomolecules for the growth of biocontrol agenta.
