Hi there,
I read that SERS on gold which is adhered to a (quartz) substrate by a Ti adhesion layer is not possible. Apparently, the Ti adhesion layer (say 10 nm) can dampen the plasmon resonance and cancel out any surface enhancement effects (caused e.g. by roughening of the gold surface).
Most studies reporting on this plasmon damping that I find use gold layers that are less than 50 nm thick. Would there be a gold layer thickness where the Ti adhesion layer no longer dampens the plasmon resonance?
I would greatly appreciate some input on this topic. Thanks very much in advance!
