I was working with Geneious trial but I do not have it anymore. Is there another non-paid software with similar characteristics? My OS is Macintosh. Thank you.
Now I need to perform BLAST, in-silico PCR. In-silico enzyme digestion. Primer design, phylogenetic trees. sequence analysis. View complete chromosome files (for some reason MEGA does not allow it).
I think BioEdit might help you. It is written for Windows platform, but you can run it using Wine. Functions needed for Stand-alone or via-Web PCR, phylogenetic analysis (combined with TreeVew), restriction mapping are embedded.
For primer design and in silico PCR, I believe many people are enjoying FastPCR (free version), or you can try NCBI ePCR. Both are very simple to use.
Also for those who are looking for a plasmid editor, APE is good.
There are also some nice BioEdit tutorials on YouTube like this one: https://youtu.be/aPEKX1B0lHU
It is a pity how expensive Geneious has become, with only 1 year subscription now, instead of being able to use the version of the software you buy (perhaps I am mistaken but this is how it appears to be, from their website).
Since version 6, Geneious allows you to buy a permanent license rather than use the subscription model. However, they only update it for a year, and then you need to buy the newer version if you want further updates. But you can use the version you bought permanently.
