The database is an extensive list of chemical compounds isolated various forms of life. The database contains a significant number of plant-based entries, in addition to entries from various other phyla.

Searches can be performed based on a large number of parameters.  However, based on your original question, I would recommend searching using only the "biological source" or "type of organism" search features to avoid biasing your search results... You will need to ADD these features from the "add property" tab when you first open the page as they do not appear in the default list of search parameters.

From there, all you need to do is provide the database with either the genus or genus and species name of your herbs and the database will generate a list of compounds which have been reported from that particular genus and/or species.

Note:

-The database does not recognise common names, you need to provide the proper scientific name of the species

-Spelling needs to be exact, or the database will not return any results

-Depending on your browser hitting the "Enter or Return" key on your keyboard may or may not activate the search (It will in Google Chrome / It will not in Internet Explorer) in which case you simply need to press the "search" button on the database's web page to activate the search.

-As far as I know, you can access the database, perform searches and view the resulting list of compounds from your searches free of charge.  However, in the full access version of the database each search result (chemical compound) can be clicked on to view much more in-depth information, including;

-Chemical Structure

-Physical Properties

-Biological Properties (when available)

-Original Sources/Citation Information (Perhaps most important)

If you wish to view this information, you will need to obtain full access to the database, most likely through your institution's library...

On a final note, while I can not claim the database to be an entirely comprehensive survey of the literature, I have performed searches involving well-studied plants, which have returned lists of  200+ to 300+ chemical constituents.  Based on this, I would recommend the database an excellent source for generating the bulk of your "list of known constituents" from your herbs of the Chinese medicine pharmacopeia.
